Responsibilities of Country Representatives :

 

·         Promote activities of the SEG and interact with associated sister societies and allied professional societies in your country.

 

·         Identify potential new members for the SEG and promote Global Membership (where applicable) and sponsored Student Membership ( e.g. Halliburton Student Membership program 2003-2004) in your country.

 

·         Identify local universities with strong geoscience programs and encourage establishment of  local student sections affiliated with the SEG.  Support and facilitate the organization of existing SEG student sections.

 

·         Maintain (and regularly update) a website for your country and link it with the SEG-Global Affairs Committee website (in collaboration with the GAC webmaster).

 

·         Attend the SEG Annual Meeting

 

·         Assist your Region Coordinator in :

 

1.       Organizing regional conferences supported by the SEG in your country  and/or holding  events with a regional focus at the SEG Annual International Convention.

 

2.       Liaising with the SEG for activities hosted in your country and assisting the International Showcase Committee with the selection of potential sponsors and exhibitors from your country.

 

3.       Facilitating SEG educational programs such as DISC, Distinguished Lecture, and Distinguished Educator in your country.

 

4.       Assisting TLE Editorial Board in publishing special editorial sections about your country/region.

 

5.       Assisting with nominations of potential honorees for Honors and Awards Committee and potential members for Council District Representatives.

 

6.       Assisting in organizing a regional event at the Annual SEG Meeting.

 

 Responsilbilities of Region Coordinators :

 

·         Promote the SEG within your region.

 

·         Attend at least one of the two GAC meetings (or geographical coordinators’ joint meetings) each year.  GAC meetings are usually scheduled twice each year – once during the SEG Annual International Convention  and once in Spring.

 

·         Appoint country representatives in your region with the agreement of the GAC Chairman.

 

·         Educate country representatives on SEG services and deadlines and coordinate the activities of country representatives in your region.

 

·         Direct country representatives in fulfilling their responsibilities (as listed above).

 

·         Interact with associated sister societies in your region and promote collaborative efforts with the SEG wherever possible.

 

·         Maintain (and regularly update) the GAC website for your region.

 

·         Assist the GAC Chairperson and Vice-Chair in preparing proposals for special projects for your region ( e.g the PC for Students Program funded by the SEG Foundation).

 

·         Plan and hold a Regional Luncheon at the SEG Annual International Convention.
